Rory and Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls

I have watched the Whole of Season 1 out of 5. It is available on Disney and Netflix. On Netflix there is also a mini season called ‘A Year In The Life Of The Gilmore Girls’.
This was maybe to tie up some loopholes that needed fixing as the series was axed due to declining ratings than an end to the story. Here is the background of of Rory and Lorelai Gilmore.

What is the background to the Gilmore Girls?Who is Lorelai Gilmore?

A girl from a privileged background, Lorelai Gilmore, gets pregnant at the age of 16. Due to parental grief and general fallout, she runs away to the Connecticut small town of Stars Hollow.

She starts off as a chambermaid at the Independence Inn, and over the years, as she brings up her daughter, she becomes manager of the Inn. An Inn is like a hotel in America. This is not a spoiler as it is the base of the drama.

Lorelai’s daughter, Rory, is super bright and qualifies for admission to the local private school, Chilton. This is where the story begins.

The show goes between Lorelai’s and Rory’s lives and loves. The bond between mother and daughter is beautiful. The way they interact each other and the way that they act as ‘parents’ to each other is superb. It makes the whole thing worth watching on its own.

Finally, Lorelai is reluctantly reunited with her parents, whom she had run away from after becoming pregnant. Every Friday evening, Lorelai and Rory go for supper because they are paying for Rory’s school fees. As a result of these things, do get tense in these visits.

Neither Lorelei’s nor Rory’s love lives are consistent. Like all relationships, they have their ups and downs and they help each other through it.

Who is Rory Gilmore?

She is Lorelai’s daughter due to her teenage pregnancy. Her name is also Lorelai but is called Rory to avoid confusion. She is 16 years old and attends Chilton School. An exclusive school for bright older children.

Whilst there, despite initial problems, she grows to settle there

Life doesn’t always go to plan she, by the end of season 1 seems to have made some friends there.

Nothing can be taken for granted at Chilton School. Her best friend still comes from Stars Hollow, Rory’s original school.

Do I like Rory and Lorelai Gilmore?

5 40-minute shows * 22 episodes per season is a lot. I was Gilmore Girls ‘weary’ by the end of Season 1. The young are supposed to be a lot better at binge watching than me.

There is interest in seeing whether Lorelei marries Max or chooses Luke instead. I would learn by watching season 2. However, I am not motivated to do this.

I will occasionally watch the odd cheeky episode of the show occasionally.

I was perfectly happy to watch Season 1, however, 4 more 22 episode series seems too much. Maybe you have to be female to binge-watch all 5 seasons. That is a small criticism, though. I have half-read spoilers, and things do change in it, so nothing can be taken as a given. It is as much a drama as a comedy.

Finally, I don’t regret watching it at all. Rory and Lorelai Gilmore provide a good drama,
