It is a cold January. We need some warm socks and a film to watch by the fire. Based on Charles Dickens Novel, A Muppets Christmas Carol is I ideal.
I know Christmas 2025 is over, but as I had some time so I decided to review the film now. It’s up there with Elf and Die Hard. It is one of the top Christmas films of all time and can justifiably be watched any time throughout the year.
We are in Winter 2026, watching a cheeky Muppet film with warm socks and an eggnog is not out of the question. It is downright cozy.

Cozy Up with The Muppet Christmas Carol Based On Charles Dickens Novel
This is the adaption of ‘A Christmas Carol’ is the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge. Based On Charles Dickens Novel Michael Caine plays the horrible man who works as a moneylender, he also employs a batch of underpaid, overlooked workers. The chief of these is Bob Cratchit, Kermit the Frog. Scrooge’s staff are all underpaid. All of them are Muppet’s to keep things lighthearted and child friendly.
They live in poor housing conditions as they cannot afford better. Also, the people who do business with Scrooge are treated strictly, for example they are not allowed to default a payment on a loan, even at Christmas. Generally, it is money first, people second.
On Christmas Eve, Scrooge has a series of dreams. These dreams are ‘Christmas Past’, ‘Christmas Present’, and ‘Christmas Future, they each show Scrooge how his mean miserly ways have affected him and those around him. After being shown his life, Scrooge changes his ways for the better.
Spoiler Over.
What did I think?
Firstly, anything with the Muppet’s in it can’t be bad and I did enjoy it, however, there have been some innovations that have changed the show. When I first watched it as a child in the 70s, there were no shots of Kermit with legs. To me, seeing them now is wrong. A small thing, but not too terrible.
Fozzie Bear as Mr Fizziwig
The rest of it was fabulous. Lots of Muppet silliness. Fozzie Bear as Mr Fizziwig, the local townhouse/pub owner, trying to do a Christmas speech. Also, Animal’s drum solo is superb. It was a Muppet bonanza and no one character was left behind.

I particularly liked Bob Cratchit’s family. . . .
. . . In the film, Kermit/ Bob Cratchit was married to Miss Piggy/Mrs Cratchit. They had 4 children. 2 were pigs, and 2 were frogs. We will avoid the obvious humour and remind ourselves that the Muppets were actors as well. For example Gonzo, the narrator was ‘Charles Dickens’. Anyway, I won’t spoil the humour, but I liked the way Mrs Cratchit’s twins were like their mother.
Bunsen And Beaker

There was also Bunsen and Beaker as charity collectors. There were lots of Muppet’s old, and new.
All my favorite’s were there anyway.
Notice For Mum’s And Dad’s

Note: for Mums and Dads, when Gonzo/Charles Dickens says something is too scary for him read between the lines. Follow Dicken’s advice and example and remove your very youngest, as the scene is quite intense. This scene pulls no punches
Overall a very good film that did not outstay its welcome. A lot of films try your patience indulging the directors every whim. This thankfully does not. It is based on Charles Dickens novel and it stays true to his ideas of social justice. That is why they probably chose a real man rather than a Muppet as Scrooge.
