Alien Romulus is a good film. I like it. Rotten Tomatoes rates it, both from critics and audiences at an Average of 80%.
Who Is Rain Carradine?

Though she has fairly earned her right to leave the company, ‘stitch her up’. She still has to work on the mine for a long time through crooked bureaucracy.
Alien Romulus’s heroine is Rain Carradine. In case you are wondering the actress behind Raine is Cailee Speany.
She is an orphan who works in a horrible mining colony. Yet she and her android buddy Andy, no plot spoilt, believe they have the right to leave her horrible mining job and community.
How does Rain Carradine Respond?
Not taking this lying down, Raine and a few colleagues decided to take the law into their own hands. To sum up, they fly away from the community by repairing one of the company’s decommissioned old ships and flying to a better place.
I won’t say any more as that would spoil things.
Where are the Aliens in Alien Romulus?
Rain and her friends need fuel pods to fire themselves to their mutually desired planet. They believe they will find the pods on one of the company’s abandoned space stations, the Renaissance.
On the abandoned station where they want to get fuel pods from, the Renaissance, they find fuel and, much to their inconvenience, Aliens. Will they get out alive?
What is Alien Romulus like to watch?
They all had the accent-less talking atmosphere that the Alien original films had. This is therefore important as it shows that there is no dominant country in the empire.
It also had the slightly creepy ‘deep-space’ atmosphere of the open space in the abandoned Space Station, with background echoing noises. Also it was dark.
It was pleasing that they did not know how to deal with these creatures initially, and when you saw a party member die, and this is not a spoiler, it would not be an Alien film without death; you did get scared and saw Aliens kill people.
When they do get educated about dealing with Aliens, it is still frightening. It is just ‘different’.
Aliens are evil and scary; going in with all guns blazing simply won’t work, for example. Heat and fire are like mana to their hunting instincts.
The Aliens are the hunters, not the hunted, whatever the size of the gun.
Did Ridley Scott direct Alien Romulus?
It was good to see the film was co-produced by Ridley Scott, the original director of Alien. This was a good thing. It was different to the original film yet it pleased me that they were sticking to the original Alien universe. A few Alien films have been duds, but this was good, and the director, Fede Alvarez, will have kept Alien fans happy.
And me.
Does Alien Romulus stay faithful to the Alien concept
I would say yes, it does. It makes sure that humans are helpless and frightened within a large outer space. I was certainly a bit jumpy at times. The whole concept of ‘In Outer Space no one can hear you scream applies’. Even though there were a few of them, they were helpless against Aliens.
I like it when aliens show human vulnerability. Even with many weapons, they are helpless regarding the sulphuric-blooded, fast, running, rock-hard Alien.
Just as an aside what is the companies attitude to the Alien films, towards Aliens?
As has been hinted many times in other films, the Empire sees the Aliens as a resource, not an evil. They want to understand the creatures and use them as technology. Science often imitates nature, and the Aliens are no different in this respect.
What are my overall thoughts?
It is somewhere between memorable and forgetful. Nevertheless, at times, the action is too non-stop and not suspenseful enough. However, We can forgive that. It is still pleasingly tense, and you are afraid of the Aliens.
