On the website Rotten Tomatoes, the critics gave it a 91% approval rating. I think that the critics are wrong on this one.

In the future we live under companies rather than states.

Aliens from the popular franchise are finally brought to Earth. One of the companies, BoyKavalier Inc, that rules part of the earth, manage to capture an Alien due to a rival company, Wayland Yutani’s, ship crashing on BoyKavalier’s territory.

I think the critics are wrong on this

Boy Kavalier, left, the CEO, decides to keep the Alien for research rather than hand over the property to Weyland Yutani.

Aliens are totally new beings with a different way of doing things due to their evolutionary path, so there is much in it for Science.

After all, science has always been heavily dependent on nature so the Boy Kavalier CEO can find new ways to solve problems with this entirely ‘new nature’.

What did I think of I think Alien Earth?

I watched 6 out of 8 hours of the show but gave up due to the excessive length of the series. This is six hours of my life.

To be fair the story was slowly being built up to an exciting conclusion but I had lost interest before then.

It disappointed many of the audience on Rotten Tomatoes because it is not really a true ‘Alien film’. It does not use Ridley Scott’s ideas of suspense or James Cameron’s style of action. It appeases Alien fans by including the odd ‘action’ Alien-out-of-control moment. However, it is generally a science fiction series.

There are bits where I think, ‘hey! I want to watch more,’ and I become gripped. Then there are lulls which bore me for 10 to 20 minutes. These episodes should only be 40 minutes long, rather than the 60 minutes that they are.

It is as if no one was tapping the director and suggesting that maybe he should moderate the time on the saga.

Wendy the Cyborg is likeable.

Alien films have a traditional feminine hero, and I do like the cyborg Wendy. She is up there with Raine Carradine and Sigourney Weavers Ellen Ripley.

If you like Sci-fi then you will like this

This is essentially the Alien franchise’s take on heavy Science fiction, and if you are a sci-fi fan, then you will like this. However, if you are a casual Alien ‘horror suspense’ viewer, this may disappoint.

What mark would I give it 7.5/10. Too long, too protracted. Too many boring bits. I wanted to like it, but couldn’t.

7.5/10
