Adolecent Knife Crime Jamie NetFlix Social Issues
Owen Cooper As Jamie

Though you felt like you had been on an emotional rollercoaster, most viewers approve of this. It shows that everybody is affected in such an incident when something like this happens, as there are real human beings involved.

For every page turned in a newspaper about a stabbing is the scars of the communities suffering long after the incident.

Knife crime is a horrible crime, and the victim, perpetrator, relatives, and the mental health of those around all suffer. This was strong and brought it home to me.

What can we learn from the drama?

As a 52-year-old, I don’t understand the modern Internet. There is a wide range of elements, including culture, subcultures, and communities. This is especially true for the young generation. All these influencers, Snapchat chatters, emojis and Instagrammers all speak codes that are beyond me and most over 40-year-olds.

Though the net is a land of untold opportunity, it also has dark corners that the older generation needs to be aware of.

For example, Andrew Tait is not just a name in the tabloids.. Half-informed authority figures are also discussed in the Guardian and Telegraph. Authorities need to read and learn about these people, and that is one of the main themes of the whole series.

Though Jamie, the anti hero, is turned into a bit of shit by the end of the series, hardened by what has happened to him in life. There is a bit of a positive at the end of the series.

SPOILER ALERT:

After the end of the 3rd episode, he is recommended for mental health treatment. When he rings his dad on his birthday, in the next episode, he tells him he is going to plead guilty to the knifing. Also, he sounded a lot more positive and less hateful.

On the other hand after speaking to a friend of mine, she interprets it as Jamie being a shit to spoil his Dads Birthday. Take your conclusion or interpretation of the end after you have watched it.

SPOILER OVER

My only criticism is that they should have done an episode from the victim’s side.
The author agreed after release.  However, apart from that, it is highly watchable, on the on edge of stuff as entertainment. Though it is much more than that

A good article from the Radio Times about it
