Dynasty The Murdochs On NetFlix
When I was young, Rupert Murdoch was quite prevalent in British politics. He was the kingmaker of the country. Whoever the tabloid newspaper ‘The Sun ‘ would back as future Prime Minister would win. I used to read the satire Private Eye as a schoolboy, and when I read about his antics, I used to get stroppy in a teenage way as I was very liberal in my teenage years.
When this documentary came out, I was delighted. I wanted to learn all about this figure who was all influential in British politics throughout my youth and kept the Labour Party in the wilderness for many years.
Who Are The Children of The Murdoch Empire
Lachlan: The eldest of the boys in the Murdoch family of his second marriage. He shares his Dads Conservative ideas, which is always handy.
James: Of the boys, he is probably the most competent; however, he is not as right-wing as his Dad, nor is Elizabeth. However, on his watch, probably the biggest scandal in tabloid history was uncovered: phone hacking.
Elizabeth: Probably the most competent business person, but Rupert does not take the female species so seriously, so her chances of running the company after Rupert’s demise was less likely.
Prudence: She was less interested in taking over the family business than her siblings. Still gets a voting right and lots of money. As a child of the first marriage, she was lucky to get away from Rupert’s fathering philosophy
What Is Rupert Murdoch Like As A Father?
They are taught to constantly compete with each other as Rupert sees his company as a Family Business. He constantly plays one off against another. Now, fair enough. It is a big, bad world out there, and people do take advantage of one another. But Ruperts antics and his playing of these games was maybe to a ridiculous extent. He is looking at the big picture. He wants an heir to the family business so he will start training from birth.
They grow up, and they start looking for jobs. Daddy suggests that they work for him. Elizabeth was put in charge of some small, unsuccessful Australian Television Channels as her first job. Lachlan and James are also given small jobs to test them and see if they are good enough to achieve.
All their jobs are tests, and whether they know it or not, they want to get closer and closer to the executive washroom. Fair enough, a bit of nepotism is all well and good, but Rupert takes it to extremes.
Should I Watch Dynasty: The Murdochs ?
I will not tell any more details. Still, Rupert Murdoch has done some vindictive things in the British political ecosystem, but taking your work home and moulding your children for the future workplace defies belief. At least let them grow up without planting the seeds of grudges in their formative years.
Moulding your Children from a young age to be the future CEO of NewsCorp is wrong. Siblings are supposed to love each other in a brotherly/sisterly manner, not compete. I do not think it is good for their outlook/psyche to be trained as future press barons from that age.
A Brief Aside About Rupert Murdoch And Me
The documentary is superb. For the first twenty-five years of my life, I was almost obsessed with the man. He was politically to the right of Genghis Khan. He did some incredibly vindictive things to many political figures and upset on many election nights.
I have to say it didn’t stop me from buying the occasional copy of the Sun and News Of The World. As I used to say at the time, I liked a bit of ‘Smut on Sunday’. I knew better, Rupert knew better, but I was never a po-faced leftie. I didn’t boycott food or produce from companies that were politically incorrect. Could it be argued that I was part of the problem? Did my single paper purchase inspire the News Of The World to hack a celebrity’s phone? I was part of the problem on this occasion.
Against this, it could be argued that I paid for my Labour Party membership, so it is a yes-or-no question. Anyway, enough about me.
The Murdochs have
What is the state of the Murdoch family now?
The end of this is that all the Children have patchy relationships or ‘do not get along’ with each other. The family is highly dysfunctional, and there would always be arguments regarding the inheritance of the empire of company.
